Caltrain Go Pass
Have you used the FREE Caltrain Go Pass on your Clipper Card yet? What are you waiting for?
You can use the Caltrain Go Pass for the full calendar year seven days a week - and Stanford Medicine will automatically renew your membership for you for as long as you’re eligible! Make sure to keep your employer-issued ID badge with you whenever you use your Caltrain Go Pass.
Caltrain Go Pass can be used any time, any day - even on your day off! Caltrain Go Pass users must be prepared to show their employer-issued ID to train conductors along with their Clipper card. Failure to do so may result in citation.
Postdoctoral scholars, and university and hospital employees residing off Stanford property and within typical commuting distances.
Eligible - Hospital employees are eligible if they meet all of the following conditions below:
- Work 20 or more hours per week
- Receive regular Hospital benefits
- Are at Stanford primarily for employment
- Residence address is not on Stanford property (outside of the 94304, 94305, and 94309 ZIP codes*)
- Residence address is within a typical commuting range of Stanford's main campus (i.e., Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Sacramento, San Benito, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, and Yolo counties)
- Are not in a classification listed under "Not eligible"
- For Stanford Health Care employees: are not fully remote, and assigned work location is in one of the following zip codes within the Caltrain Service Area: 94304, 94087, 94305, 94025, 95110, 94303, 95054, 94028, 94027, 95134, 94063, 94070.
Not Eligible - Hospital employees are NOT eligible if they meet any of the following conditions below:
- Temporary and casual employees and contractors
- Employees working less than 20 hours per week
- Anyone whose residence address in the HR database has a 94304, 94305, 94309 ZIP code*
- Anyone whose residence address in the HR database has a blank ZIP code*
- Employees whose residence ZIP code and/or worksite is/are not within the typical commuting range of Stanford's main campus (e.g., outside of California, Southern California, etc.)
* Proof of residence off Stanford property will not be accepted for ineligible (94304, 94305, 94309) or blank ZIP codes in the Stanford Transportation database and no exceptions can be made.
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 2023
Stanford Health Care employees are only eligible for a Caltrain Go Pass if they are not fully remote and their assigned work location is in one of the following zip codes within the Caltrain Service Area: 94304, 94087, 94305, 94025, 95110, 94303, 85054, 94028, 94027, 95134, 94063, 94070.
The Go Pass is valid for the full calendar year, seven days a week, and there is no restriction on their use.
- If you are eligible and have not yet received a Clipper Card with Caltrain Go Pass, you can submit an online request through the Luum Commuter Platform* below:

- Request that the Caltrain Go Pass be added to your Clipper Card via the Go Pass request form.
- Activate Your Go Pass by tagging on at a Caltrain Station Clipper Card reader. Be prepared to show
your employer-issued ID to the conductor along with your Clipper card.
* Please note: due to the Stanford University winter closure, No new transit pass requests will be processed between 12/12/2023 - 12/31/2023. Effective January 1, 2024, management and assignment of hospital staff transit passes will be overseen by Stanford Medicine Transportation Services (previously Stanford University).
